Program Objective

This program can be used to generate Sony DVD Architect Subtitle files (.sub) which are automatically generated from the metadata associated with JPG images and which can be imported into a DVD Architect slideshow.  The metadata that may be imported is:

  • Picture filename (with or without extension)
  • Date picture taken
  • Time picture taken
  • GPS position (if available)

Program Use

First select the time offset of the first subtitle required (enter this in seconds in the Time offset box).  Specify also the time spacing between pictures (and subtitles) in seconds.  This must be a constant throughout the slideshow, otherwise the subtitles will not be synchronised with the slideshow.  Then enter the duration that each subtitle should be shown, also in seconds.  Once these are entered, you can choose the photos that are included in the slideshow by pressing the button “Choose Photos”.  The order that the photos are subtitled is the same order in which the photos are selected in the Choose Photos dialog box.  So it is important that this order matches the order of the photos in the slideshow.

By default the Date and the Time of each picture are inserted in the subtitles.  The generated .sub file is shown in the results box at the bottom of the window.  This is in the format required by Sony’s DVD Architect.  You can also save this file by clicking on the “Save subtitles” button.

To include the day, filename or GPS data, tick the appropriate check box.  Clicking the “Update” button, would update the result box at the bottom of the window.  Alternatively, you may also save the updated subtitles by clicking “Save subtitles”.

A more customised output may be generated by ticking the “Custom Format” check box, as shown above.  A new combo-box appears in this case where you can use one of the pre-formatted outputs.  Or you can completely customise the subtitle by entering the control characters shown below the combo-box (and explained below) and the text that you wish to include.
